Young People Support Assistant

What’s the role?

As a Young People Support Assistant, you’ll work directly with young people, particularly unaccompanied asylum seekers, who have recently arrived in Glasgow. You’ll help them settle into accommodation, access services, register with GPs, and get involved in education, community, and peer support networks.

You’ll also support with:

  • Accompanying young people to appointments

  • Helping them navigate public transport and local amenities

  • Providing administrative assistance for service-led initiatives

  • Offering practical and emotional support as they transition into new environments

What do you need?

We’re looking for people who:

  • Have experience working with vulnerable children or young people in a care or support setting

  • Are confident communicating with a diverse range of young people

  • Can work independently and as part of a team

  • Are flexible, empathetic, and well-organised

  • Have basic literacy, numeracy, and admin skills (Microsoft Office knowledge is a bonus)

  • Are willing to undertake a PVG check (fully funded by JBG)

Desirable but not essential: SVQ in Health or Social Care or currently working towards it.

Support Worker – Fixed-Term Paid Placement

📅 Contract Duration: Up to 26 Weeks
💷 £12.60 per hour | 35 hours per week over 3 days (8am–8pm, Mon–Sun rota)

As part of the same Transitional Employment Programme, this is another fantastic chance for a Glasgow resident to gain real-world experience, build a strong reference, and receive weekly pay in a supportive care environment.

We’re currently recruiting for a Support Worker to join the team at David Cargill House in Hyndland. This fixed-term post is ideal for someone who wants to develop their career in health and social care and is passionate about supporting older people to live with dignity, independence, and meaning.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work closely with residents and staff to:

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care

  • Support daily personal care tasks like dressing, bathing, meals, and medication

  • Promote wellbeing through social inclusion and meaningful daily activities

  • Accompany residents to appointments or outings

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to individual care plans

  • Ensure health, safety, and infection control standards are always met

You’ll be part of a supportive team and encouraged to participate in reflective practice, team meetings, and development opportunities.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is warm, caring, and eager to learn

  • Has some experience or interest in working with older people in a care setting

  • Understands the importance of respect, dignity, and compassion in care

  • Can work shifts across weekdays and weekends

  • Can confidently follow health & safety procedures and contribute to a professional care environment

Desirable but not essential:

  • SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Social Services and Healthcare (or working towards it)

  • Willingness to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and work in line with the Code of Practice
