Today, we bring you news about the launch of our first, Employment package for Security.

Following a period of uncertainty during the covid pandemic, the imminent removal of restrictions is bringing a boost to many sectors including retail, hospitality and entertainment.

This boost brings new employment prospects, with security being one of the sectors hugely benefiting. If you would like to start a career in security, read on to learn how the package will help you to do just that.

Package stage 1 - Training

Our security training is delivered in partnership with a leading security training organisation and has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

No prior experience is required. The course is open to Glasgow City Council residents, aged 18 years and over. To take part, you must have the relevant valid ID (Check ID requirements) and be able to pass a criminal background check.

The fully funded training begins on Monday 4th April, and runs for 5 days, until Friday 8th April, taking place from 9.00am to 6.00pm each day. It will be delivered face to face, in a City Centre training location.

To take part, it is a requirement that all participants have a current First Aid Certificate. If you don’t have this, we will be running a free course on Saturday 2nd April, 9:30am to 3.30pm, to help you achieve this.

Package stage 2 - Licences

Next, you will apply for a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence. To achieve this you must have the relevant valid ID (Check ID requirements) and be able to pass a criminal background check.

We will provide support to apply and cover the costs to receive your licence, which is sometimes referred to as an SIA badge. Please be aware that the processing of the licence and criminal record check will be carried out by the SIA issuing authority.

Package stage 3 - Interview

On completion of stages 1 and 2, we will aim to provide an interview with an employer for a role in the security sector.

We provide support and advice on how to prepare for this interview. If you are successful, you will move to either stage 4 or 5, depending on the employers requirements.

Package stage 4 - Paid work placement

Next, you will begin a 6 week work placement, paid at the Glasgow Living Wage hourly rate.

Package stage 5 - Job offer

To complete the package, you will be offered permanent employment in the security sector. Support to move into employment and access to further training will be offered to ensure your continued career development.
