First things first, allow us to tell you a little bit more about ourselves. Jobs and Business Glasgow (JBG is fine) is probably the biggest provider of employment and training advice and support in the city. And we’re pretty successful at it, even if we do say so ourselves.

In this last year as our City recovers from the impact of the Covid pandemic, we have worked with more than 2,700 of Glasgow’s finest upstanding citizens to help them find work, access training, sometimes just being a friendly face and voice in the lonely days following lockdowns.

We’re proud of what we do but we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to support even more people.

Our customers come first. Many other businesses say that and to be fair, they mean it. However, for JBG it’s personal, because our job is to provide support, encouragement, perhaps even a friendly ear to those who need it most and we never lose sight of the responsibility we carry in providing the very best possible service.

This has never been more crucial than right now, with so many people out of work, possibly as a result of losing their jobs during the Covid pandemic. So that’s why we’re now looking for some exciting new people to join our team! Maybe that’s where you come in….

So that’s enough about us, we want to know a bit about you. How have you been affected by the pandemic? Maybe you’re unemployed, lost your job because of the pandemic, working on the dreaded “zero-hours” contract with no regular hours on offer? Do you have experience of delivering fabulous customer service, are you always determined to go the extra mile, do you like the sound of us and what we do?

Customer First Officers

Our Customer First Officers will be front and centre of a whole new approach to how we support our customers. Regardless of their circumstances and the challenges facing them we want our customers to be confident that we are helping them as well as we possibly can. Which is why you will be so crucial, because first impressions really do count.

As part of a small but perfectly formed team you will often be the first point of contact for our new customers, helping them though the registration process, getting to know more about them and explaining more about JBG and how we can help. And it won’t end there, because you will keep in regular contact with these customers to make sure we’re still getting things right for them.

We do need our Customer First Officers to have excellent IT skills and be comfortable and confident on video calls and face to face – after all, you will literally be the face of JBG!

We are recruiting exciting, fixed term supported employment opportunities for city residents who are actively looking for work.

Successful applicants will be offered a 26-week paid work placement and will earn a weekly wage, holiday entitlement and other employee benefits.

The Customer First Officer Role will be a combination of home working and working across various locations throughout the city.

Job Requirements:

Successful applicants will be presentable and approachable with the ability to put people at ease, therefore customer service skills are essential. Having strong communication skills, you will also be reliable, organised, and patient and can work with customers in a sensitive and professional manner. Applicants are expected to be forward thinkers with the will to succeed for themselves and others.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Capability to work without day-to-day supervision.
  • High level of initiative and motivation with the ability to seek out solutions to problems.
  • Good IT skills with attention to detail.
  • Confidence to challenge customers in relation to behaviours and attitudes towards gaining employment.
  • Ability to carry out the duties of the job with reasonable adjustments when necessary.
  • Capability to review evaluate success and identify areas of improvement.
  • Prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of the role.
